Nevada - Charleston Peak

11,916' Charleston Peak is located in the Mount Charleston Wilderness, Nevada just a short distance from Las Vegas. I climbed the peak with Explorer Post 360 on November 27-30, 1969. The partin included: Dwight Teater, Roger Getz, Rick Remington, Don Whitacre, Ralph Drollinger, Steve Vicklun, Victor Lindwall, Leo Pitts and myself.

It was an easy drive to Las Vegas and Kyle Campground. Temperature 17° in the morning. Hiked in snow to about 10,000 foot elevation and camped. Saturday hiked through snow about 6 miles to peak. Reached top at 2:30 p.m. Got lost in the dark corning down and got off trail. Found trail and made it to camp by 7:30 p.m. Up Sunday in light snow fall - to cars in 1 1/2 hours and on the way home by 11 a.m. Home at 5 p.m. Great trip.
