Eventually arrived at Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin. The parking lot is very large and was almost full. Got to see the Beehive Geyser go off from a distance - it's a real straight up fire hose of a geyser. Unfortunately its several days before it goes off again. Did get to see Old Faithful go off - in a light rain.

The weather wasn't very conducive to sightseeing so headed back to West Yellowstone and Baker Hole campground for the night.

Returned to Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin.

Walked three miles or so seeing all the sights.

Saw several geysers go off including Grand (more spectacular than Old Faithful in many respects), Daisy, Castle (from a distance) - and Old Faithful twice (once from a distance and once up close).

Saw the Morning Glory Pool which has lost some of its glory. The road we drove on back in the early 50's is now a walking/bicycling path.

Continued on to the West Thumb area on the shore of Yellowstone Lake. Crossed the Continental Divide twice en route. Toured the small West Thumb Geyser Basin - mostly just pools - finishing in the rain.

Being closer to Forest Service campgrounds, I headed out the east entrance of the Park.

The road follows the lake shore for some miles.

Lots of lightning and thunder - heavy rain over the lake.

Had to wait for 15 minutes or so at a construction stop. Wyoming is also rebuilding the road coming from Cody outside the Park.

Made camp at the Three Mile campground, Shoshone National Forest.

It rained off and on during the night and was dark and sprinkly in the morning so I decided to take a layover day. Also, a section of road in the Park that I wanted to drive was closed Monday-Thursday (due to chip sealing) and open Friday-Sunday.
