San Diego County - Cuyamaca Mountains - North Peak

5,993' North Peak is in the Cuyamaca Mountains north of Cuyamaca Lake outside of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. It is the second highest summit in the Cuyamaca Mountains and the third most prominent with nearly 1,300ft of prominence. Nearly the entire mountain is on private property.

When I climbed it in 1962 there wasn't any problem hiking on the private land. From the then end of the blacktop on Engineers Road I followed a "trail" to a new fire road under construction then along the road to near the top and then through some brush to the top. Thers is now a paved road to the top to service some electronics facilities. About 3 miles round trip.
