In 1974 I conducted a Backpacking Class at the Adventure 16 store in El Cajon for Mic Mead. These field trips were at the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and the "Peak" climbed was 6,515' Cuyamaca Peak. We hiked in to Arroyo Seco Environmental Camp and camped there.
Cuyamaca Rancho State Park is a state park in Southern California, United States, located 40 miles east of San Diego in the Cuyamaca and Laguna Mountains of the Peninsular Ranges. The park's 26,000 acres feature pine, fir, and oak forests, with meadows and streams that exist due to the relatively high elevation of the area compared to its surroundings. The park includes 6,515-foot Cuyamaca Peak, the second-highest point in San Diego County.
The Arroyo Seco Environmental Camp is located inside the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and is one of two primitive campgrounds the park offers. There are over 100 miles of trails in the area that accommodate hikers, bikers, and equestrians. This campground has 4 sites and can only be accessed by horseback or hiking only. Chemical toilets, non-potable water and corrals are available. Campsites are open by reservation. Call the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park ranger station to reserve.
April 6-7, 1974 with Deck, Twohey, Adams, Ontell and Humphrey. Camped at Arroyo Seco and hiked 18 miles including Cuyamaca Peak.
June 8-9, 1974 with Deck, Twohey, Clark, Clark, Lee, Mueller, Mueller, Parmer, Parmer, Lowe, Lowe, Ocehiello, Ocehiello and Trotter. Camped at Arroyo Seco and hiked 15 miles not including the peak.
June 29-30, 1974with Deck, Berube, Olden, and Gwynne. Camped at Arroyo Seco and hiked 18 miles including Cuyamaca Peak.
August 3-4, 1974 with Deck, Twohey, Forham, Castlen, Holman, Flagg, Flagg, Jones, Jones, Jones, Michaels, Michaels, Mastaglio, Harris, Harris, Schneiderman, Thompson, Hill, Messick, Carroll, Cuseo, Cuseo, Benoit and Shendenhelm. Camped at Arroyo Seco and hiked 15 miles not including the peak.
