On December 20-24, 1963 myself, Noel Parr, Dick Terry, Bob Johnson, Art Ravenscroft, George Ludtke, Ken Fife, Chuck Meyer and Bill Elliott. (Explorer Post 360) snowshoed on an 18 mile round trip to Devil's Postpile.

We drove to Bishop and camped out Friday night. On Saturday we drove to Minaret Summit and were on the trail about 10:00 a.m. Beautiful views of Minarets, Mt. Ritter & Banner Peak almost immediately. Had lunch, then down steep slope to Socher Lake - across Lake and thru outlet to Red's Meadow Campground. Made camp about 4:30 p.m.

Sunday up about 9 a.m. and snowshoed to Devil's Postpile about 11 a.m. arriving at noon (1 mile) for lunch. At 1:30 on to Rainbow Falls (arrived about 3 p.m.) then back to camp (about 4 p.m.).

Monday up at 6:30 a.m. on trail at 9:30 for Mammoth Pass. Arrived top of pass in wet snow about 1 p.m. for lunch. Then quick descent to Twin Lakes arriving about 3:30 p.m. Hitch-hiked for car, then on to Bishop for steaks at 6 p.m. Camped out at Bishop, home about 3 p.m. next day. WONDERFUL TRIP.
