Sierra Nevada - John Muir Wilderness - Treasure Lakes South

On August 3-4, 1975 I took a 12 mile round trip backpack to the southern Treasure lakes.

I hit the trail about 9 a.m. Saturday at South Lake after hitching a ride up from Parcher's Camp (after walking a mile from lower hiker parking). Took the Treasure Lakes turnoff and continued to upper Treasure Lakes, arriving around 11 a.m. in a leisurely fashion. Made camp, took a quick dip in the lake, and sunbathed for a while. Just messed off all afternoon - read some of climber's guide. Ate supper around 5 and hit the sack about 6.

Got up at 6 a.m. and on the trail at 7. Went cross-country over easy Class 2 pass to Margaret Lake (nice) and on to the Bishop Pass Trail, then down to Long Lake and off to Ruwau Lake (nice) for lunch, then over ridge to Chocolate Lakes and down to Bull Lake (all heavily used, particularly Bull) and on to the trailhead at South Lake. Walked 3 miles down the road to car. A nice loop trip.
