On June 25, 1978 Johnny Bartlett, Raymond Lombard and I did a 5 mile round trip day hike. We left Lone Pine about 11:30 a.m. and drove to Whitney Portal. Hiked the trail to Lone Pine Lake arriving about 2 p.m. Some snow on upper trail.
People returning from climbing Whitney - switchbacks still snowed in and people climbing snow slope. Many sunburned and most looked really beat. We had late lunch at Lake and messed around in the water and on snow slope.
Left about 4 p.m. I went down the trail and the boys went down the creek. I beat them to Whitney Portal. We got home about 6 p.m. Nice day.
