Sierra Nevada - John Muir Wilderness - Lamarck Lakes

On August 5-6, 1978 myself, Stan Haye and Daniel? backpacked on a 6 mile round trip in the Lamarck Lakes area of the John Muir Wilderness.

After shopping for Deck Trek supplies in Bishop, we hit the trail at North Lake around 11:30 a.m. Stopped at Grass Lake for lunch about 12:30. Water at outlet of Lower LaMarck lake was a little high but made it across logs okay. Arrived camp area at Upper LaMarck lake about 3 p.m. Still piles of snow and wet areas at many campsites. Found nice dry sandy area on hill with snow pond water nearby.

Sunday Stan hiked up to LaMarck Col for the view - arrived just after noon, stayed an hour, returned to car about 5:30. Daniel headed back to the car to wait. I sent Daniel on his way at Lower LaMarck lake and after stashing my pack headed toward the Wonder Lakes going high over a relatively easy cross country route - some bouldering. Stopped about 11 a.m. above the largest lake and enjoyed the view - took photos. Ate lunch and sunned until about 1 p.m. then headed back to my pack. Headed down the trail about 1:30 or so and arrived at trailhead about 2:30. Got the car from trailhead parking and waited with Daniel for Stan. Easy relaxed weekend. Mosquito's not bad. Weather warm.
