Sierra Nevada - Golden Trout Wilderness
Redrocks Meadows/Indian Head

On May 26-28, 1979 myself, Stan Haye, Rich White, Cathy White, Allen White, Jim White and Rody Troeter backpacked on a 23 mile round trip hike, including a six mile day hike, in the Redrocks Meadows/Indian Head area of the Golden Troup Wilderness.

We drove to Blackrock Gap trailhead, hitting the trail about 10 a.m. Short stop for snacks at Casa Vieja Meadow. Some snow on trail but not much. Very few mosquitoes. Sprinkled rain on us a bit along the trail but didn't last. Enjoyed River Spring mid-afternoon snack stop. Reached Red Rock Meadow about 4 p.m. Found several other parties in the area but we got a very good campsite.

Sunday we took a day hike up to Indian Head and climbed around it a bit. With rope for safety could be climbed. Then Jim White and I took day hike up to the Toowa Ridge pass. Nice hike but restricted views due to trees. Appears could go cross country to Kern Peak with no problem.

Monday we hiked out with lunch stop at Casa Vieja Meadow. Good hike with beautiful weather. Boy was I out of shape.
