On September 29, 1979 my self, Jimmy White and Allen White did a 5 mile round trip day hike to Golden Trout Lakes.
We hit the Golden Trout Lakes trail at Onion Valley about 8:30 under threatening skies. It started sprinkling on us as we started up the steep slope next to the falls. Alternated between rain and small hail and sometimes stopped as we continued up the trail. Found a couple camped at the "Y" in the trail with two big dogs.
As we arrived at Golden Trout Lake it was snowing lightly but soon stopped. After a snack we headed down with only one brief flurry of hail. Nice five mile hike in spite of the weather.
