Sierra Nevada - John Muir Wilderness - Big Pine Creek

On May 10-11, 1980 Jim White and I backpacked up North Fork Big Pine Creek in the John Muir Wilderness on an 8 mile round trip. We parked at hiker's parking lot and followed the trail to Lon Chaney Cabin for lunch, then on to camp just below first lake. Fine campsite out of the wind.

Had light snow in the morning. Was first use of new light weight 4-man pyramid tent that I made. Its great for two people. The lake was still frozen. Since it was a little chilly and windy we headed down early after a lazy morning. It was Jim's first snow hike and my first in several years. Had a great time - and started me getting back in shape.
