On April 4, 1981 Jim White and I did a 10 mile round trip ski tour up Bishop Creek to South Lake adjacent to the John Muir Wilderness.
We left Independence about 8 a.m. and drove to the gate at Habegger's Resort on South Fork of Bishop Creek. Skied up the road with a lunch stop a mile or so below Parcher's Camp. Continued to Parcher's Camp and on to South Lake. The lake was down to empty pending the spring runoff. Rested and ate.
Jim explored down to the lake. There was 3 feet or so of snow at Parcher's. Headed back about 4 pm and had a wild ski down the road to the car. First part is fairly steep and the sun had gone behind the mountains so things had gotten icy. Great day.
