On November 14, 1981 Jim White and I went ski touring at Mammoth Lakes. We left Independence about 7:00 a.m. in the rain. Weather cleared as we approached Mammoth and we followed the ski trail up from Tamarack Lodge to Lake Mary. It was windy and cold so we headed back down via the road.
We didn't end up skiing much. Drove up to the main lodge about 1 p.m. sightseeing and then headed down the mountain. Drove up Rock Creek to the normal parking area with about 8 inches of fresh snow. Jim skied down the road while I drove. We then headed for home after a refreshing first trip of the winter.
