On April 17, 1982 Jim White and I went ski touring at Mammoth Lakes. We left Independence early and drove to Tamarack Lodge at Twin Lakes where we paid for the cleared parking and headed off across the lakes and up the north slope.
The snow was great but the north slope was a bit icy in spots. We made it okay up to easier ground and headed toward the Pass, skiing down some slopes along the way. The final climb to the pass was a busy place with tracks from a snow survey snow vehicle but once on the pass it was very nice - great view and fine sunny weather.
After enjoying the pass we headed down to Horseshoe Lake, across it and onto the regular ski trail which was sort of icy and rutted. We cut down toward the lakes early which was a mistake as it was icy - should have stayed on the road or trail. After falling down numerous times we finally made it back to the car after a very fine day.
