Jim White and I had set out up the Sally Keyes trail for the three day May 28-30, 1983 weekend but kept looking over at the snow here and decided to come back down and go skiing today. So on May 30, 1983 we climbed up the rather hard (almost icy) creek bottom into the bowl below Gilbert Lake.
Jim went on up on the ridge toward University Peak while I stopped at Gilbert Lake. After a while he swished by and I followed. In the short time since May 21, the lower snow had melted quite a bit which made skiing a little more difficult but I had a great day anyway.
