Sierra Nevada - John Muir Wilderness - Shadow Lake

On September 14, 1983 Marty Nikolaus and I headed out for a day hike to Shadow Lake. Marty was in town for a few days and wanted to submit an application for work this winter at Mammoth Mountain. I offered to take him up and then we would go for a hike in the area.

After he'd taken care of his business, we drove to Agnew Meadow and headed for Shadow Lake. Marty wasn't feeling very good so he stopped at the San Joaquin river crossing. I hiked on up to the inlet of the lake in beautiful weather, returned, picked up Marty and we strolled back to the car. As we hiked into the parking area Marty found a Swiss Army pocket knife so we both had a good day.
